Can a patient suffer from hypotension during his or her anesthesia?

Anesthesia is generally given the patients to induce the loss of pain sensation where the skeletal muscles are made paralyzed with or without the consciousness. The anesthetic drugs are especially given exogenously during any kind of surgery or any painful procedures. The blood pressure below the normal level is said to be hypotension which is caused by bradycardia, myocardial infarction, hormonal changes, anemia and other endocrinological disorders.
One of the side effects of the anesthesia is that it causes hypotension. Hypotension or the low blood pressure caused by the anesthetic drugs is mainly caused due to the increased vasodilation of the blood vessels that increases the blood flow. Anesthesia induced hypotension needs to be monitored during the surgery and treatment should be given immediately to revert the condition back to normal, otherwise it may leads to adverse effects on the patient. Sometimes death also can occur if the state of hypotension is left unnoticed.

The low blood pressure is often seen after few minutes of administration of the anesthesia and if the amount of anesthesia given is high, that also can induce hypotension. It is always better for the physicians to coordinate with the professional anesthesiologist before giving any anesthesia and related treatment.
