Alpha Blockers for Hypertension |
Alpha blockers are a type of medication that is often used to treat people suffering from high blood pressure that ultimately results in hypertension. Alpha blockers are also used by people to cure other disease such as pheochromocytoma, enlarged prostate and peripheral artery disease and they are used in combination with other medicine. Alpha blockers are also known as adrenergic blocking agents interrupt the message that is being transmitted to other parts of the body. The blockers used in this type of medicines blocks the chemical messages that have to be transferred to receptors. Alpha blockers also block the alpha receptors that are present in the blood vessels. Studies have shown that alpha blockers when used for treating hypertension increase the chances of developing other complications like strokes, heart attack. For this purpose it is suggested that people should not opt for alpha blockers as initial drug treatment since it can cause other risk factors. Alpha blockers such as tamsulosin, doxazosin, terazosin and phentolamine are some the alpha blockers that are available in the market. Alpha blockers (when not taken under the supervision of a physician) are also associated with certain side effects such as low blood pressure and feeling of dizziness. |
