Low blood pressure: What is it?

Blood pressure can be low and this can create health problems, this is also a blood pressure condition that has symptoms. The symptoms of low blood pressure can be dizziness, fainting and fatigue. This condition of low blood pressure is known as hypotension and will need to be treated medically if the numbers of the blood pressure reading are extremely low.

When low blood pressure is checked it is often done in both the standing and lying position, this is because people with low blood pressure can suffer from a condition known as symptomatic low pressure. The drop in blood pressure is often detected when the person is in the standing position and these are called signs of orthostatic symptoms when there is a drastic change in blood pressure level when changing positions. This is enough medical evidence for a person to be diagnosed in most cases with low blood pressure.

The physician will then try to isolate the reason that is causing the low blood pressure so it can be corrected before it can cause damage to the heart and brain. This is done with the use of tests like an electrocardiogram, the patient wearing a Holter monitor and the readings from this, along with a urine culture test.
