Can Blood pressure go up during the winter months?

Due to falling temperatures in winter, most of the people may experience an unhealthy rise in their high blood pressure, especially elderly people.  A recent study linking cooler temperatures in winter with higher blood pressure has proved this. Variations in blood pressure due to seasonal changes have been observed for years. In elder people, the rates of high blood pressure readings springing up from 23.8% in summertime to 33.4% in wintertime. The increases in blood pressure were seen in both the diastolic (bottom) and the systolic (top) numbers.

It is said that even small temperature changes in winter is enough to raise the high blood pressure. This is because usually the colder weather induces blood vessels to squeeze which makes the heart to work harder to pump the blood. This in turn causes limitation in the amount of oxygen which circulates to the heart and induces high blood pressure. You do not have to worry for this because there are many ways to control your blood pressure during winter season. Mostly people who follow proper medication will not get this problem. Regular exercising and proper diet always help to keep your blood pressure in control
