Brachial Artery: How it functions?

Brachial artery refers to the artery that supplies blood to the hands and arms. This is the superficial artery, which is conveniently reachable and is often used for taking the pulse measurements as well as for recording the blood pressure numbers. However, its superficial location often makes it more susceptible to damage and injuries, which might be the cause of an injured brachial artery. As this is a matter of concern, health care experts take precautionary measures to prevent this artery from damage.
There is a very close relationship between the brachial artery and the median nerves in terms of its proximity. The median nerve is present in lateral to brachial artery. There are several branches of the brachial artery, such as the profunda brachii artery, the superior ulnar collateral artery, inferior ulnar collateral artery, radial artery, ulnar artery and its nutrient branches to humerus.
Brachial artery brings in healthy and oxygenated blood to our cells, which is further used by the cells in the form of essential nutrients and oxygen. It allows overall fresh oxygen to be spread throughout the body to ensure good health.

If any trauma or damage is caused to the upper arms, it might be risky for the brachial artery. In case of any type of arm injuries, it is important to see that the deep cuts, injuries or punctures are treated immediately to avoid damaging the brachial artery.
