Unhealthy Lifestyle Habits That can cause Hypertension

There are some unhealthy lifestyle choices that can be a risk to develop high blood pressure, because they are habits that directly affect the heart and arteries. These habits are things that can be changed to lower blood pressure, because they are habits rather than outside factors that cannot be changed like genetics. Some of these unhealthy habits that factor into high blood pressure diagnosis are:

Unhealthy eating habits can directly contribute to high blood pressure, habits such as fatty, greasy or junk foods eaten regularly in the diet. Processed foods and junk foods have a higher sodium content than healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. Sodium is one of the things that is able to make the blood pressure rise when eaten.
Lack of exercise can be both bad for the blood pressure and for overall health, as well as cause fatigue. Lack of exercise can cause weight gain and high blood pressure, whereas exercise can keep excess weight off, provide the body with energy and this will help to keep blood pressure in the normal range.

Smoking can be a cause of high blood pressure, each cigarette raises the blood pressure as the nicotine is being put into the lungs. Smoking can also cause artery and heart damage that contribiute to high blood pressure.
Alcohol can be a contributing factor when drank in excess, social drinking, which means an occasional alcoholic drink will not cause the blood pressure to be in the high range. Alcohol consumption in excess can cause dehydration in the cells and this can lead to heart problems and high blood pressure. Drinking red wine has been proven to help heart health, when it is drank once daily in a small amount. Drinking alcohol in excess can cause other health problems including liver disease.
