Can human kidneys get affected by elevated levels of blood pressure?

Kidneys are the bean shaped organs that are involved in the filtration of the blood and also involved to regulate the blood pressure.  High blood pressure or the hypertension is commonly caused due to defects in the heart, kidney and also with the age factor.
The high blood pressure causes the heart to overwork and over the period, it damages the blood vessels that carry the blood. If the blood vessels to the kidney are affected, then the kidney cannot efficiently eliminate the toxic compounds and the unwanted fluids from the body. This situation in turn causes an increased blood pressure and it in turn affects the kidney more. This is the very dangerous cycle.
Kidney failure is mainly caused by high blood pressure. Kidney transplants or the dialysis are the only ways to treat kidney failure. The number of patients with kidney failure due to hypertension is increasing drastically every year across the world

The worst part is that the patients with hypertension do not show any symptoms. Hence it is suggested to take the medical check up on a periodic basis; especially the patients with kidney damage should check their blood pressure on a routine basis to avoid havoc in their life.
