What Is Gestational Hypertension? |
Gestational hypertension is a type in which high blood pressure is experienced by a pregnant woman after her 20th week. The root cause of this hypertension in pregnant women is still not known but it creates disorders in the blood flow to various parts of the body such as liver, kidneys, brain and placenta. Gestational hypertension cannot be cured completely but regular check up will help to determine the symptoms of it thereby avoiding the risk of developing complications associated with it. Gestational hypertension is developed when the pressure of blood vessel increases. The chances of developing this type of hypertension are more in pregnant women than ordinary women who is not pregnant. Gestational hypertension can be diagnosed by taking several readings of blood pressure and then ultimately finding its average. Depending upon the severity and symptoms experienced by a pregnant women treatment is given. Treatment includes consuming foods without salt, complete bed rest, medications. Women suffering from gestational hypertension from long time are at higher risk of experiencing complications such as placental abruption, babies with smaller height or preterm delivery. Problems in vision, discoloration of eyes, severe headache, swelling of hands and face, increase in blood pressure are some of the symptoms experienced by a women suffering from gestational hypertension |
