It consists of a combination of benazepril hydrochloride and hydrochlorothiazide. Benazepril hydrochloride has an IUPAC name 3-[[1(ethoxycarbonyl)-3-phenyl-(1S)-propyl] amino]-2, 3, 4, 5-tetrahydro-2-oxo-1H-1-(3S)-benzazepine-1-acetic acid monohydrochloride. It has a empirical formula of C24H28N2O5•HCl and have a molecular weight: 460.96.The chemical name of hydrochlorothiazide is 6-chloro-3, 4 dihydro-2H-1, 2, 4-benzothiadiazine-7-sulfonamide 1,1-dioxide.

Its empirical formula is C7H8ClN3O4S2, and it has a molecular weight of 297.73. Benazepril hydrochloride is an angiotensin converting enzyme. It inhibits the synthesis of angiotensin II which is a potent vasoconstrictor. This way, it helps in the dilation and relaxation of blood vessels and enhances blood flow to the heart. This in turn results in a decrease in blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic. It helps eliminate excess water and slats from the body and reduces blood volume and water retention. Together, they help reduce both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
