Blood pressure abnormalities in newborn babies

The normal systolic blood pressure of the newborn’s ranges from 70 to 90 and the normal diastolic blood pressure range from 110 to 130. The newborn is diagnosed with high blood pressure when the pressure levels exceed 95th percentile for its age, gender and weight. The occurrence of high blood pressure in infants is not very common. Only 3% of the newborn are affected with the high blood pressure.
The high blood pressure in the newborns may be due to the abnormal functioning of either heart or kidney. It also can be due to the prematurity which is caused by the mother’s unhealthy habits during pregnancy like smoking, alcohol abuse, lack of proper diet and physical exercises, poor neonatal care.  Besides these, there are other causes out of mother’s control also contribute to the premature delivery which includes hormonal imbalance, abnormal uterus structure, infections and illness.
There are many causes of preterm delivery. Sometimes it's caused by the mother's lifestyle choices during pregnancy: smoking, drinking alcohol, using drugs, eating poorly, not gaining enough weight, exposure to physical stress, and poor prenatal care are all causes of preterm delivery.

The abnormalities in the blood pressure should be immediately monitored and treated, as these may severely affect the functioning of the heart, brain, kidneys and eyes.
