Ocular Hypertension Treatment

Ocular hypertension can be treated by applying some ointments or medications so as to reduce the pressure inside eyes. If ocular hypertension is not treated then it can lead to damage in optic nerve thereby resulting into permanent loss of vision. The main aim behind treatment is to improve the symptoms of ocular hypertension before it gets worsened. People who are at higher risk of developing glaucoma and those are prone to damage their optic nerve are treated with medical treatment. Depending upon the severity of ocular hypertension it is treated by doctor. People who are having pressure of more than 21 mm of mercury are treated with topical medications.

A person is given medical treatment by some doctors only if he experiences symptoms like blurred vision, increase in the pressure, halos or pain in eyes. For this purpose doctors check intraocular pressure of eyes every time you go for a checkup. Medications are also used for treating people suffering from ocular hypertension. Doctors prescribe medicines that do not cause any side effects such as eye drops that help in reducing the internal pressure of eyes. Medicines such as latanoprost, bimatoprost and travoprost are prescribed for patients suffering from ocular hypertension.
