Water Pill Side Effects when taken for High Blood Pressure |
Water pills are one of the most prescribed medications that are prescribed for high blood pressure and are often prescribed with other medications to help control blood pressure. This diuretic is also a medication that can have some health complications or side effects for people they have been prescribed for such as: Water pills when taken cause frequent urination, this is because their function is to eliminate excess fluids from the body and sodium. Some people that take a diuretic can experience irregular heartbeats and this is known as heart palpitations. Should this type of condition occur when taking a diuretic the physician should be alerted immediately. The person taking a diuretic could feel week or tired, this is one of the side effects that can occur and can often be decreased with the prescription being adjusted if it does not decrease on its own within the first week. This is a side effect the physician should be alerted about. Dizziness can be a side effect and is often accompanied by lightheadedness, when this occurs one of the things the hypertensive person is told to do is to stand from a sitting or lying position slowly. One of the side effects that can occur when taking a diuretic is dehydration; this can be in the form of extreme thirst and is due to the water pill ridding the body of the excess sodium and fluid. The way to help with this side effect that is recommended is to drink moderate amounts of water. A side effect of taking water pills is often problems with the appetite, the person taking a diuretic could have a problem with their appetite or feeling hungry |
