Dizziness can be a side effect and is often accompanied by lightheadedness, when this occurs one of the things the hypertensive person is told to do is to stand from a sitting or lying position slowly.

One of the side effects that can occur when taking a diuretic is dehydration; this can be in the form of extreme thirst and is due to the water pill ridding the body of the excess sodium and fluid. The way to help with this side effect that is recommended is to drink moderate amounts of water.
