How is fasting related to blood pressure levels?

Fasting is one of the ways used to shed of the excess weight and gives rest to all the inner organs of the body. It also helps to excrete the toxic compounds which in turn freshens the body. In order to lead a healthy life, occasional fasting is necessary as it not only refreshes the body but also gives sound mind and healing power.
At the same time, continuous fasting is not good for health and it may lead to anorexia, dizziness, light headedness and it often leads to low blood pressure or hypotension. The posture of the individual is also very important during fasting as report says that standing continuously can cause decrease of 20 mm Hg in systolic blood pressure.
During fasting, the sympathetic nervous system often get suppressed and the activation of opiate occurs which induces fasting related hypotension. The minimum amount of electrolyte must be maintained at the time of fast to avoid low blood pressure. The electrolytes can be supplied to the body by drinking fruit juices. Salt can be used in the drinks.
It is advised to withdraw the fasting if any sign of abnormalities in the blood pressure is detected as it may lead to other major health complication.
