Manual method of blood pressure measurement

If you are taking blood pressure manually then you must adopt proper way. It should be done accurately and correctly. It is believed that blood pressure taken manually quite accurate as compared to those digital blood pressure monitors. Here are the steps which you will be required to follow if you are planning to take blood pressure manually:
First take sphygmomanometer and a stethoscope. Tie the sphygmomanometer in the arm of the patient above the elbow. Cuff size must be suitable to the patient and it must be completely deflated first. Remember, if cuff is too small or too large then the readings may go somewhat inaccurate.

Then locate the pulse of the patient on the inner part of the arm. You can do this with the help of stethoscope. Now inflate the cuff using the plastic bulb that is given at the end of the sphygmomanometer. And while doing so keep the stethoscope in proper place. Let the air valve reach 150. Pump it till that point. Now, open the air valve and listen the heart beating through stethoscope. Record the number at the first beat and at the last beat. Suppose if the first number comes to 130 and the second comes to 85 then it is said that the blood pressure level is 130/85. In this 130 is the systolic blood pressure and 85 is the diastolic blood pressure.
