High Blood Pressure and Smoking

Smoking has been proven to be directly related to high blood pressure, while most people believe that it is directly related to lung and heart disease. Smoking can cause breathing problems that has been proven, but it also can cause narrowing and weakness of the blood vessels and arteries.
The statistics show that approximately 30 percent of high blood pressure and heart disease is directly related to smoking. One of the reasons for this is that smoking puts toxins in the body that enter the blood stream and can weaken the blood vessels and also help to clog them, because the cholesterol level can be raised also from smoking.
When diagnosed with high blood pressure one of the things that is suggested is to quit smoking, this is because when a cigarette is smoked it causes a rise in blood pressure and this can be dangerous with high blood pressure. High blood pressure combined with smoking and other factors can cause stroke, and it is also a real possibility for the person that smokes and has high blood pressure to be diagnosed with coronary artery disease.
