Radial pulse: What is it?

As the heart beats, the arteries also pulse simultaneously. Some of our arteries, such as the carotid and radial arteries that you can feel, and there are some others that lie deep within the body, and they cannot be accessed. The best way to count heartbeats is to measure the pulse, and this is extremely essential for determining the heart rate, either in active state or at rest.
Pulsation occurring in the radial arteries can easily be felt in our wrist, which is known as radial pulse. It is possible to determine the pulse rate by placing the middle finger and the index finger on the wrist. Usually as you reach out to the wrist, you touch the bones with your thumb; just follow the line and find the soft tissues below the bones and you can feel the radial pulse.
The radial pulse is often mistaken for the wrist; this might complicate the counting procedure. However as you learn how to identify the spot; you can actually do it yourself.

People usually prefer to take the doctor’s advice in this regard instead of reaching the radial pulse themselves because the result might not be dependable enough. Only when it is done under the supervision of a doctor, best results can be derived.
