Salt intake and hypertension

Hypertension is the abnormal condition where there is an increased level of blood pressure is seen and it is highly correlated with the various defects in the salt metabolism like calcium salt, sodium salt.
These salts are necessary for the many functional processes of the body like homeostasis, energy production and these salts are mainly regulated by the kidneys. Thus, any abnormality in the salt metabolism severely affects the normal functions of the kidney and causes bone demineralization, osteoporosis and also increases the risk of stone formation in the urinary tract which in turn causes hypertension.
These problems become further worsened by the intake of diet with high salt concentration as these salts tend to draw more water to the blood and in turn increase the volume of the blood resulting in increased blood pressure. This effect is very much prominent in case of diabetic patients.

These problems could be minimized or prevented by avoiding the consumption of processed food, where salt is an additive and the usage of minimum amount of salt in our regular diet help people away from hypertension that is caused as result of salt intake and also from other medical complications. Researchers have shown that up to 50% of patients with hypersensitivity shows salt sensitivity and it varies with the severity of hypertension
