Systolic blood pressure: An explanation

Blood pressure is basically the measurement of the force exerted by the blood on the walls of our blood vessels. Blood pressure is divided into two categories – the systolic pressure and the diastolic pressure. Systolic blood pressure is basically the maximum level of pressure on the arteries during a cardiac cycle that occurs when our heart beats or contracts and pumps blood.
Typically, systolic pressure can be indentified when the heart contracts. It is basically the maximum level of arterial pressure during the contraction of left ventricle of heart. When the ventricular contraction occurs it is known as systole.
When r blood pressure is recorded the number that is measured first is known as the systolic blood pressure number. For instance, the normal blood pressure level is 120/80, or 120 over 80, in which the systolic pressure is 120.
The word “systolic” has been derived from a Greek term “systole” that indicates “drawing together or contraction.
Fluctuation in the systolic blood pressure number is equally detrimental as that of diastolic pressure. In fact, it is very important for people to maintain the best blood pressure levels in order to have good health and improved heart functions.
