Can water retention be a side effect of high blood pressure?

Experts believe that blood pressure medications and high blood pressure itself are the leading causes of water retention.   However, apart from this there are many other causes too like drinking habits, lack of exercise, unhealthy diet, high temperatures, PMS in women, menopause, and nutritional deficiency.
But as far as hypertension and water retention is concerned, they go hand in hand. And it is worth noting that this condition is serious and must be attended quickly. Such health condition can lead to cardiac failure, kidney disorders, and liver disease.
When the patient has fluid retention due to high blood pressure then high potassium and low sodium diet will give some relief. Those seeking some natural remedy must have fruits and vegetables that are high in potassium. Uva ursi and Horse chestnut are some of the effective herbs that treat water retention due to high blood pressure. Having foods like bananas, potatoes, carrots and oranges will also increase the potassium levels in the body. Such remedies will dispose of the extra water and toxins from the kidney and thus perform the functions properly.

Natural diuretics or those available over the counter are also helpful in dealing with water retention due to blood pressure. And along with this, such diuretics will also give some relief in diabetes, insomnia, stroke, and angina.
